If you love reading comics such as Tintin, Smurfs, Spirou and many others, you should definitely consider visiting Brussels. There’s a Brussels and Comic Strip walk that’s available online (via visitbrussels.be) where you can visit different comic themed places – shops, museums, wall art, and cafe.
Since I had one day to check out these places, I have managed to visit 2 wall art, 1 Museum, 2 Shops, and a cafe. I have been a fan of Tintin and the Smurfs since I was young, and seeing the homeland to these comics makes the trip more memorable to me. I can only imagine the inspiration that the cartoonist had during the development of these comics.
These are the highlights (I believe) that are worth visiting if you plan to do the Comic walk tour in Brussels:
COMIC WALL ART
The comic strip wall art are everywhere near the city center of Brussels. The easiest to spot, if you’re near the center is the blue stairs Tintin art. It’s located near the Manneken Pis statue. I believe there are probably around 13 comics wall art around the city center.
The Museum of Original Figurines (MOOF) is a museum for original figurines from different comics. It also features 3D comic strips and original comics. Location: Galerie Horta March aux Herbes 116.
Outside the Galerie Horta near the MOOF museum is the Smurf Store. This is the only and exclusive Smurf store in the world. They sell different types of Smurf items – clothing, accessories, figurines, toys and many more.
LA TINTIN BOUTIQUE
La Tintin Boutique is a store that sells different Tintin merchandises (well, of course). Many of the items here are very exclusive and some are quite pricey. Definitely worth visiting for Tintin fanatics. Location: Rue de la Colline 13 (right next block to the Godiva store in Grand Place).
Comics cafe is a cafe-restaurant which has a comics-themed that features original artworks and figurines all around the restaurant. A great place to eat and relax after doing the Comic walk tour. Location: Place du Grand Sablon 8
And there you go. A comic walk tour around the city of Brussels. Let me know if you have ever been to Brussels, or if you have visited any of these places.
