The cube houses in Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Before going to the Netherlands, I randomly searched for cute things in Netherlands and I found these cube houses on one of the searches.  These cube houses (or kubuswoningen) are set of houses with a 45 degree tilt, located in Rotterdam near the Blaak Subway Station.

The cube houses were designed by Piet Blom, his concept was ‘living as an urban roof’.  There are about 38 small cubes and two super-cubes.

When we got out of the subway station, it didn’t take too much time to find them since were just right across.  I would say that they are truly a work of art.  It kind of reminds me of my geometry plus art class in high school – the cubes and futuristic design.  Unfortunately, when I got there it was too late for the open house tour.

Also, it is possible to stay at these houses.  The location is perfect with historic areas, bars, restaurants and cafes.

These are right across from my school! I still think they’re awesome even though I see them every day 🙂 I also stayed at the hostel once and it’s so weird. The windows are in some very strange places! Did you als get to visit the Hello Kitty store (Shop for Friends)? It’s like a 10 min. walk from there.

Wow, that is awesome that you get to live next to these cool cube houses. I didn’t get a chance to see the open house cube museum. I would definitely like to see them in the future though. I didn’t know there was a Hello Kitty shop near by!!! I missed out. I definitely have to check this place again. Thanks for the recommendation.
