The Moomin House Cafe is a cafe/restaurant based from the popular children’s book ‘The Moomins’ created by Tove Jansson in Finland. The Moomins are white and round characters that resemble hippopotamuses. They have many adventures through out the story. Moomins have become so popular that there’s Moomin Theme park in Finland. In Japan, you can find Moomin shops and cafes.
There are three Moomin cafes around Japan – 2 in Tokyo, 1 in Fukuoka. And several Moomin stands that sells cafe goods and other items.
I have always wanted to visit the Moomin cafe in Tokyo but I never got a chance to visit until my recent trip. The Moomin House Cafe is located in the Tokyo Skytree, which I also wanted to see, so I got to see both the Skytree and cafe (yay for convenient locations).
The cafe is a medium-sized cafe with lots of Moomin dolls decorated around the place. When I visited there, I was seated immediately (no reservations or waiting). And one of the staffs brought a Moomin doll to accompany me.
Here are some photos at the Moomin House Cafe:
The atmosphere at the Moomin House cafe is very relaxed and welcoming. I had a great time sitting next to Mr. Moomin. The food was yummy, I got the Moomin Cafe Latte and Moomin Waffle Fruits. I would definitely go back here again since its such a cute place to visit. The prices were reasonable and they have friendly staffs here as well.
