In the town of Hofgeismar, there’s a castle right at the Reinhardswald Forest. This castle is known to be as the inspiration for the Brothers Grimm fairy tale story ‘Sleeping Beauty’. It dates back as early as 1334. Now, visitors can stay at the castle hotel, as well as eat at the castle cafe-restaurant. There’s also a theater and a medieval garden.
During our visit we got a chance to see the garden and parts of the castle ruins. They provided a Sleeping Beauty fairy tale tour booklet which we read while walking around the gardens. Also, we had lunch at the cafe-restaurant. The food was good, we just got salad and soup. And there’s a ‘Sleeping Beauty afternoon tea’ which we didn’t get a chance to try, maybe next time. Overall, its a great place to see and enjoy the fairy tale like setting.
