Lohr am Main is located in the Bavaria region of Germany. It is said to be that the real Snow White once lived in this town. The inspiration from the story was a girl with a noble heritage named Maria Sophia Margaretha Catharina von Erthal. She was born in 1729 and lived in Lohr’s castle. Maria Sophia was said to be charitable, kind, and the ideal princess. She also had a stepmother named Claudia Elisabeth Maria von Venningen. Her stepmother was known to have a domineering personality. Claudia Elisabeth also had a ‘magic mirror’. Today, the mirror can be seen at the Spessart Museum in the Lohr Castle.
Whenever we drove near the Lohr am Main highway, we have always noticed a Schneewittchenstadt (Snow White town) sign. After a few months, we decided to visit the town of Lohr am Main. The town itself has a very fairy tale like ambiance, the cobblestone streets, timber framed buildings, and a castle. We walked from the city center going to the Lohr castle, which was about 5-10 minutes. The castle is now used as a museum (Spessart Museum).
