Souvenirs from around the world: Sumo wrestler figurine from Tokyo, Japan

Here’s a cute little Sumo wrestler figurine I got from Tokyo, Japan a while back in 2007.  I got it from the airport for about $10, and it was one of those last minute items.  It’s kind of funny that I went shopping a lot in Tokyo but I almost forgot to buy a souvenir.  This caught my attention since it’s so chunky and has such a funny pose.

I’m not quite sure what material its made from but its breakable (I don’t think its glass but maybe ceramic?).  I’m so glad that I got this souvenir because it is my ONLY souvenir from Japan at the moment.  While I did have clothing, shoes and cosmetics, this was the only item that I can put on display.

Do you have a souvenir from Japan?

Did you know there are 3 other Sumo figurines that belong to the same collection ? They are 4 overall, representing 4 different Sumo fight positions ? They are all very “chunky” as you said. I own 2 of them (including one identical to yours) and I am in Japan at present time, looking for the other two.

Awesome! Thanks for the great info. I didn’t realize there were 3 others. Have a great time in Japan!
