Aside from visiting the Trevi fountain, Pantheon and the Vatican city, one of the most iconic places in Rome is the Colosseum.  The Colosseum is an elliptical amphitheater and is the biggest one in the world.  During the Roman empire, it was used for gladiator contests, animal hunts, executions and dramas.

The best way to see the Colosseum is by booking a tour, the line is very long for those who didn’t book a tour or purchase a ticket in advance.  I would say about a 1-2 hour wait just to get a ticket.  The best thing about getting a tour is that you get to see different sections of the Colosseum – first and second tier, arena floor, underground chamber and third tier.

– Tip: purchase a ticket in advance regardless if you’re going for a tour or not, because the line is really long.
