Bruges is located in the northwest of Belgium and is considered ‘Venice of the North’ because of its canal-based city. This city is a prominent World Heritage site of UNESCO. Bruges still has most of its medieval architecture and holds famous buildings including – Basilica of the Holy Blood, St. Salvator’s Cathedral, City Hall and Church of our Lady. While it is only 50 minutes by train from Brussels, you can find cheap flights to Bruges as well. So, what are the four fun things to do in Bruges?
1. Try out their Belgian Chocolate – Bruges has lots of local chocolate shops produced handmade. These chocolates are also made from high quality and are sold at reasonable prices.
2. Horse carriage ride – Want to see the city, the old fashion way? Then, you definitely have to try the horse carriage ride. The carriages leave from the main square and they take you around for about 30 minutes or so. While at the carriage, they have a tourist guide that will explain a bit of Bruges history and the buildings. A great way to learn about Bruges history while enjoying the carriage ride.
3. Go to the Market Square – This main square is filled with cafes and restaurants with awesome views while dining. Try out one of their restaurants or cafes as well. If you’re not in the mood for food, you can also climb the Belfry tower to see the awesome view of the city.
4. Canal Tour – Seeing Bruges from the water has a totally different experience rather than seeing it by land. The canal tour has a very different perspective of the city and has a very picturesque view you can only enjoy by boat.
